Theological Conference
Thursday, October 8 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Featuring Rev. John T. Pless, M.Div.; D. Litt. Hermann Sasse, Luther Confessor:In the World and the ChurchWe will look at the life and work of Hermann Sasse (1895-1976), a Lutheran theologian who stood with Bonhoeffer in opposing the idolatry of Hitler and Nazism. We will look at Sasse's gradual move from generic Protestant liberalism to a full-bodied Lutheran confessionalism. Particular contributions of Sasse's confession of Baptism and the Lord's Supper, the uniqueness of Lutheran theology in contrast to Reformed theology (especially that of Karl Barth) will be explored. Finally we will examine Sasse's importance for faithful pastoral ministry today.
